Puerto Rico Wedding & Elopement Photographer
Puerto Rico is a place of contrast in the best way. Historic streets and modern coastal resorts. Dense rainforest and open mountain ridgelines. A destination where couples can host a full wedding weekend or strip everything back to something deeply personal and intimate.
We have photographed a complete wedding experience in Puerto Rico across multiple environments, from a full traditional resort wedding to adventure-forward, elopement-style portrait sessions throughout the island. That time on the ground has given us a well-rounded understanding of how Puerto Rico actually functions for wedding days, elopements, and multi-day celebrations.
This page is here to help you understand what is possible, what different locations feel like, and how to choose an experience that aligns with the kind of story you want told.
Photographing Weddings and Elopements Across Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico offers an uncommon range of settings within a relatively small distance. Over the course of photographing one couple extensively throughout the island, we explored how light, crowds, weather patterns, and logistics shift from place to place.
That experience allows us to guide couples thoughtfully, not just artistically, but practically.
A Full Wedding Weekend Perspective
We photographed a traditional destination wedding at La Concha Resort, giving us firsthand experience with:
Resort timelines and guest flow
Working alongside planners and vendors
Managing portraits in an active, coastal setting
Balancing celebration energy with quieter moments for couples
This type of wedding offers ease for guests while still allowing for meaningful, intentional photography when planned well.
You can see a full example of a traditional destination wedding we photographed at La Concha Resort in San Juan:
Elopement and Adventure-Style Experiences
Outside of the wedding day itself, we spent time photographing elopement-style sessions across the island, including Old San Juan, El Yunque National Forest, and Cerro Mime.
These locations could not feel more different, and that contrast is what makes Puerto Rico such a compelling place for intimate celebrations.
Locations We Know and How They Actually Feel
Rather than listing locations without context, we believe it is more helpful to explain what each place offers emotionally and logistically.
Old San Juan
Old San Juan is vibrant, historic, and full of movement. It works especially well for couples who are drawn to:
Color, texture, and architectural depth
Romantic, cinematic portrait sessions
Early morning or evening light when foot traffic is lower
It is not quiet, but that energy can be part of the story when embraced intentionally.
We photographed an evening portrait session winding through the streets of Old San Juan and around Castillo San Cristóbal, which shows how this area feels in motion and changing light.
El Yunque National Forest
El Yunque offers a completely different experience. Cooler air, shifting light, and dense greenery create a sense of intimacy and calm.
This environment is ideal for couples who:
Value nature and the rugged landscape
Are comfortable with humidity, hiking, and unpredictability
Want images that feel immersive and grounded
Rain is common and expected here, and knowing how to work with it is essential.
For couples drawn to nature and quiet, we have photographed elopement-style portraits inside El Yunque National Forest that reflect the intimacy and unpredictability of the rainforest.
Cerro Mime
Cerro Mime is remote, open, and expansive. It feels quiet and removed from the more traveled parts of the island.
This location is best for couples who want:
Mountain views without crowds
A slower, reflective experience
Sunrise or golden hour light with minimal interruption
Logistics and timing matter here, and thoughtful planning makes all the difference.
We also photographed remote elopement-style portraits at Cerro Mime, a mountain location that offers expansive views and a slower, more reflective experience.
Weddings in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico works beautifully for destination weddings where guests are part of the experience. Resorts, city locations, and private venues allow couples to host meaningful celebrations without asking guests to sacrifice comfort or accessibility.
Our experience photographing a full wedding day here allows us to help with:
Timeline flow in warm, coastal conditions
Balancing guest experience with intentional portraits
Understanding light patterns near the ocean and in urban spaces
For couples who want celebration, connection, and a sense of place, Puerto Rico offers a rare balance.
Elopements and Intimate Celebrations in Puerto Rico
For couples drawn to simplicity, movement, and experience, Puerto Rico is equally compelling for elopements and intimate wedding days.
We approach elopements here with an emphasis on:
Location scouting and timing
Flexibility with weather and conditions
Creating space for presence rather than performance
Whether that looks like a quiet morning in the rainforest or an evening walk through historic streets, the goal is the same. To create space for something honest and unforced.
Our Approach to Photographing Puerto Rico
We do not approach Puerto Rico as a checklist of photo spots. We approach it as a living place with rhythm, texture, and nuance.
Because we have experienced the island across multiple environments with the same couple, we understand how quickly the atmosphere can shift and how to adapt with intention.
Our role is not just to document, but to guide. To help you choose locations that feel like you, plan days that breathe, and create images that reflect both your connection and the place you chose to marry in.
