Windrift Hall Upstate New York Wedding in Fall
“When I used to read fairy tales, I fancied that kind of thing never happened, and now here I am in the middle of one!”
— Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
There are certain places that feel like they belong inside a storybook.
Windrift Hall is one of them.
Tucked into the quiet countryside of the Hudson Valley in West Coxsackie, this historic 1795 manor house feels less like a traditional wedding venue and more like a private estate where time moves a little slower. Hannah and Dan chose Windrift Hall for their October wedding, and the setting could not have been more perfect for the kind of day they envisioned: relaxed, intimate, and surrounded by the beauty of early fall in Upstate New York.
The Hudson Valley is known for its rolling hills, historic homes, and brilliant autumn foliage, and October is when the landscape truly comes alive. Golden leaves lined the property as guests gathered around the manor house, creating the kind of atmosphere that feels warm, welcoming, and quietly magical.
Windrift Hall is unique among Hudson Valley wedding venues because it never feels overly polished or corporate. Couples can book the historic property as a private estate, and the experience reflects that. Instead of moving between ballroom spaces and standardized event rooms, the celebration unfolds throughout the house and grounds, giving the entire day a sense of intimacy and ease.
Inside the manor, every room is filled with character. Antique furnishings, textured plaster walls, and original wood floors create spaces that feel layered and lived-in. It’s cozy without feeling small, and elegant without feeling formal. Guests naturally gather in the living spaces, step outside into the gardens, and drift back inside again throughout the evening.
For Hannah and Dan, this setting allowed their wedding day to feel less like a scheduled event and more like a gathering of people they love. Friends and family explored the property, shared drinks on the lawn, and celebrated together as the sun set over the Hudson Valley countryside.
While Windrift Hall is beautiful throughout the year, autumn might be its most striking season. The surrounding trees turn shades of amber and rust, the air cools just enough to feel crisp, and the soft golden light of October settles gently across the property. It’s easy to see why so many couples planning Hudson Valley weddings choose fall for their celebration.

Against a backdrop of vibrant fall color, a classic style is really all you need.
Hannah’s wedding look was effortlessly timeless: a French-inspired A-line gown paired with simple flats, allowing her to move comfortably throughout the day. Daniel complemented her perfectly in a tailored suit from Proper Cloth, polished but relaxed in a way that felt just right for a Hudson Valley autumn wedding.
The couple chose to hold their ceremony directly in front of the manor house, creating a natural focal point for their guests. A runner of vintage rugs formed the aisle, drawing the eye toward a magnificent 250-year-old maple tree that stands proudly on the property.
Beneath its rust-colored autumn branches, Hannah and Daniel exchanged vows, rings, and their first married kiss. It was a fitting place to begin their marriage. Through centuries of wind, winter, and changing seasons, the maple has remained deeply rooted and enduring, a quiet symbol of strength and longevity.
After the ceremony, we gathered everyone for family portraits between the stone pillars overlooking the pond before exploring the Windrift Hall property for Hannah and Daniel’s portraits.
The estate offers so many beautiful corners to wander through. As golden October light settled across the grounds, we moved between gardens, pathways, and open lawns, capturing moments that felt both relaxed and celebratory.
Hannah and Daniel then returned to join their guests for the second half of cocktail hour, where we mingled among friends and family, documenting the laughter, hugs, and quiet conversations that make this part of the day so special.
Guests found their seats inside the tented reception through a creative “will call” display, a thoughtful nod to Hannah and Daniel’s careers in theater and the place where their story first began.
Hannah also incorporated her love of books throughout the design of the day. Antique novels served as reception centerpieces, and even her bouquet featured delicate flowers crafted from old pages. These personal details added warmth and meaning to the celebration, turning the reception space into something that felt entirely their own.
Dinner and toasts are often our favorite part of a wedding day, and this celebration was no exception.
When a couple’s family and closest friends gather around the same table, we have a front-row seat to something that feels almost like a reunion long in the making. There is something deeply human about sitting together, sharing warm food, good wine, and stories that stretch across years of friendship and family history.
Moments like these feel like an embrace after absence.
After so much distance during the past few years, that feeling was especially present throughout Hannah and Daniel’s evening. Laughter echoed across the tables, tears were shared freely, and one story after another reminded everyone just how loved these two are.
These are the moments that make a wedding day unforgettable, and the ones we never want to take for granted.
