Snowy Night Couple Portraits – Dayton Wedding Photographer
As wedding photographers, there are moments we’ve always dreamed of capturing, and snowy couple portraits at night has been on our minds for years. We’ve been waiting for the perfect conditions to bring this vision to life, and when we heard that Winter Storm Blair was approaching Ohio, we knew it was finally time.
We couldn’t wait to start planning, so we reached out to Eastlyn’s sister, Mackenzie, and her husband to see if they would be up for modeling. Mackenzie had mentioned wanting wintry couple portraits, so we knew this would be the perfect opportunity. The snowstorm was the ideal backdrop, and we were both eager to create something truly magical.
We set out on a little adventure in Dayton, braving the winter weather and making the most of the elements. Our first stop was the Fraze Pavilion, where their Christmas lights were still up, creating a warm glow against the cold backdrop. It was like stepping into a winter wonderland, with the lights adding a touch of festive magic to the portraits.
We also ventured to a nearby sidewalk, where the soft light from traffic signals created a dreamy, almost cinematic engagement photography atmosphere. The snow falling around us added to the scene, creating a beautiful contrast between the coldness of the winter night and the warmth of the couple's connection. The photos ended up feeling like something straight out of an Eastern European indie film – a stunning, cinematic love story unfolding in real time.
To top off the adventure, we took photos in a nearby parking lot, using the headlights from my car to create an edgy, unconventional lighting effect. It turned out to be one of our favorite parts of the shoot – raw, intimate, and full of character. The lighting was soft yet dramatic, adding an almost movie-like quality to the portraits.
This session was everything we had envisioned and more – the snowy backdrop, the festive lights, and the warmth of a couple braving the elements together. It’s a reminder of the beauty that winter can bring and how every session can turn into something magical when you take a chance on the unexpected.
