Hiking Elopement in the French Alps at Le Parmelan

As we dive deeper into the details of Bobi and Cedric's wedding, it's important to understand the significance of Le Parmelan to the groom. Cedric has always had a strong connection to this stunning landscape in the Rhone Alps, having grown up in the town of Annecy and returning every year after he moved to the United States.

In fact, he grew up hiking the Parmelan every year for as far back as he can remember. In 2016 after he and Bobi started dating, she joined him on this yearly pilgrimage and they’ve hiked it together ever since, bringing friends and family each time. Thus, once they got engaged, it became their dream to hold their wedding ceremony on top this mountain.

Due to world circumstances, they were forced to postpone their wedding a year. Fast forward a year later, with strict travel restrictions still in place and for the safety of those they love, they decided to postpone a second time. Their unwavering love and positivity shone through yet again, as they embraced the unexpected delay with grace and poise, knowing what was happening was bigger than themselves.

Despite the setbacks, their love remained steadfast, and they were determined to make their wedding day a celebration of their love, come what may. The third time truly was the charm, and their mountain top wedding adventure was a culmination of their love, resilience, and unwavering spirit. The mountain is a symbol of their love and their story, and it was only fitting that they sealed their bond at such a meaningful location.

As they stood at the Parmelan mountain top altar, exchanging vows and surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of nature, they knew that the uphill climb was worth it. Their postponed wedding had turned into an adventure, one that tested their resolve and strengthened their bond even further. They couldn't have asked for a more meaningful way to celebrate their love, with only their closest family and friends by their side.

Their mountain top wedding adventure was a culmination of everything they had been through and everything they had promised each other. It was a testament to their resilience and unwavering spirit, and a reminder that love really does conquer all. As they looked out at the stunning landscape that surrounded them, they knew that they wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Their joy was complete as they soaked in the beauty of their surroundings and the love that surrounded them. It was an intimate affair with their closest family and friends, who had braved the terrain to witness their union. They could feel the warmth of their loved ones' support and knew that this was the perfect way to celebrate their love.

As they read each other the time-capsule style letters they had written two years prior, and as they exchanged their vows in both English and French on the mountaintop altar, they felt a sense of peace and joy wash over them. The stunning natural scenery provided the perfect backdrop for their union. They were grateful for the opportunity to have a small wedding, surrounded only by the people who meant the most to them.

Looking back on their journey, they realized that this adventure had brought them even closer to each other and their loved ones. It had solidified their commitment and love. They couldn't have asked for a more meaningful way to begin their life together.

Now, as they embarked on a new adventure on the Parmelan Mountain, they knew that their love would continue to thrive and grow stronger with each passing day.

As they stood at the summit of Parmelan Mountain, overlooking the valley below, they were reminded of the challenges they had faced to get to this point. The climb had been tough, but they had supported each other every step of the way, just like they promised they would.

Solidifying their love on Parmelan Mountain was a moment they would never forget. The rugged beauty of the mountain was the perfect backdrop to their love story, a reminder that their love would endure through any obstacle.

As they descended the mountain, hand in hand, they knew that their journey together was far from over. But with each step they took, they knew that they were stronger and more in love than ever before.

The cloud inversion that occurred created an ethereal atmosphere, with the clouds hovering over the mountains providing a picturesque backdrop for the wedding ceremony. By capturing the surreal beauty of the moment, we were able to ensure that it will be forever preserved in Bobi and Cedric's memories.

May-October is the best time of year for The Parmelan hike. Out of this season snow and ice are likely.

What is the best time of day for a Parmelan Elopement?

The best time of day is sunrise. The trail is relatively wide and safe, so climbing up in the dark with headlamps or at dawn is possible. The later it gets in the day, the higher the sun will be and the shadows and skin tones in photos will be harsher. Cool mornings also provide opportunity for a unique cloud inversion, as well as minimal visitors.

Sunset time is also a great time for Parmelan. Most hikers leave the mountain in late afternoon for dinner, so if you wait up here until golden hour, you may have the whole place to yourself. Just be sure to pack a headlamp for the descent.

The above photos were taken in late morning (11am-ish), the light was not ideal for photography, but it was ideal for the couple’s families and wedding plan—so we made it work.

When Is Refuge Du Parmelan Open?
