I loved you from the very start. You stole my breath, embraced my heart. Our life together has just begun, you’re part of me my little one.

During this in-home session, I asked Michaela how being pregnant made her feel. She told me that pregnancy has been the scariest, most annoying and frustrating experience of her life, but at the same time, without a doubt, it has also been the most wonderfully beautiful thing that she has ever undergone. Despite everything growing rounder and weirder, and as she has admittedly lost almost all control over her own body, she still basks in wonder: "Who is the wee one going to be?" she said out loud, "…and how will he turn out? Will I be a good mother and raise a warrior? Or will I fall short and not be who he needs me to be?"

It is in these moments of conflicting thoughts, she told me, that she begins to feel him move and then her heart brims with wild infatuation and a sincere protectiveness. In the midst of these precious feelings, a new thought came to mind and she told me,

"We are one. Nothing, not even death, can change that."

Then, with a smile on her face, she said that her worries dance away--she has never felt more free or more incandescent joy--for within her body, two hearts beat.

As she told me these things, she ran her fingers through the sheer curtains, danced in circles and lifted her hands. My camera wasn't focused on capturing the traditional belly-focused shots, but rather the feeling of her soul. No matter where my focus was, the baby bump was undeniably there, so I focused on her movement while I listened to her story.
